Tokoji Temple is Soto sect in the northern foot of a mountain of Higashihonjo. The precincts are covered by a big cedar and oak, and you can see magnificent autumn colored leaves. According to the record of the temple, it was built 1374(the end of Northern and Southern Courts period) by Tenyusoyu. Tokoji Temple is the first Soto sect temple in Taki and Hikami district and became one of the three temples of Tanba after highly revered by Ashikaga Syogunate and Hosokawa.
