Kasuga Shrine Festival is one of the three main festivals in the Sasayama region and it began in 1661. Shrines are paraded around the precincts surrounding the Kasuga Shrine for two days. These shrines include, nine magnificent Hokoyama (wheeled shrines that are pushed or pulled), four Golden Mikoshi (portable shrines), and eight Drum Mikoshi (portable shrines). On the eve of the festival and during the festival itself, the castle area is bustling. You can really experience autumn more when you hear cheerful voices calling from the Golden Mikoshi, Drum Mikoshi and Hokoyama.
