“The 13th lord of the Sasayama Domain, Tadanaga Aoyama, constructed and donated the stage in 1861. Big jars of Tamba ware were placed under the floor in order to make the sound of footsteps echo loudly. At the time, the Kasuga Noh stage was known as the best Noh stage west of Hakone. “Sasayama Kasuga Noh” is performed in April and “Okina” is performed by the Umewaka Family on New Year’s Day. It was designated a National Important Cultural Asset in 2003.”
