“Yakami Castle was built on Mt. Takashiro (Elevation 462m) which was called “Tamba’s Mount Fuji”. It was a large mountain castle when it was built, larger than Okutani Castle and Houkouji Castle which were 3km east and west of Yakami Castle. It was built in the early 16th century after the Onin War by Hadano, who had become Taki-gun sub-military commissioner. In 1579, Yakami Castle fell and the Hadano clan ended due to starvation tactics by Mitsuhide Akechi as a part of the Tamba invasion of Nobunaga Oda. Writer Yasushi Inoue said “What a beautiful mountain, what a beautiful castle…” about Yakami Castle in his novel.”
