“In 1861, the 13th lord of the Sasayama feudal clan, Tadanaga Aoyama, known for his love of Noh, built and donated the Kasuga Shrine Noh Stage. It was widely known to be the best and most elaborate Noh stage west of Hakone. Each year, Gencyou Noh is performed on the first of January, and Kasuga Noh is performed in April. The only Noh History Museum in Japan is located in Kawaramachi.”
