“Sasayama Primary School and Yakami Primary School are rare examples of wooden schools that are still in use today. Sasayama Primary School was built on castle property and is viewed with pride by many residents. The school building itself represents many aspects of the Japanese culture, including relating to the structure and design of wooden buildings built during the postwar period. Yakami Primary School is a grand wooden school built in 1937 and is a local symbol. Large-scale renovations were completed in 2012, giving it new life. It was designated a Townscape Formation Important Building of Hyogo Prefecture in March 20, 2015.”
